Climbing Hold FAQs

Are FreeRange holds made in Canada?

Yes, all FreeRange holds are designed, shaped, poured and processed in Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada.

What colours do you offer?

Right now, we offer Black, Blue, Orange, Pink, Yellow, Green & Red. Click here for image.

Do you offer wholesale rates for bulk / gym orders?

Yes, we do. Please contact us for more information.

Are climbing holds toxic?

No, our climbing holds are not toxic. Polyurethane, the material most widely used in climbing holds around the world, is non-toxic once it's been given the time to cure properly, it only poses a safety risk if consumed. Small holds, like foot jibs should always be kept away from small children because of the potential choking hazard due to their size.

Are there any safety concerns with using climbing holds or training gear?

On top of the hazards listed in the answer above, all holds and training equipment have associated risks if used improperly. The main injuries of concern are to the fingers and hands. Some climbing holds are small and pulling too hard can exceed the amount of force the ligaments and tendons in your fingers and hands can take. There are no good injuries, but injuring tendons or ligaments can take a very long time to heal properly. Please be careful and don't rush into hard training too quickly. A good rule to follow is: "Start Low, Go Slow".

How many holds do I need for my home wall?

This is a difficult question to answer because it depends on the use of your wall and size of the holds. Most home walls tend to be pretty small, so it's recommended to get smaller, more low profile holds and avoid the ones that take up a large footprint on your wall.

Roughly speaking, 5-10 hand holds and 5-10 foot holds per standard sheet of plywood (8' x 4') is a good starting point. It may seem like a low number, but preferences in training and climbing style can change over time. Also, hold companies are constantly working to come out with new shapes and designs and it's nice to leave room on your wall for new holds that catch your eye ;)
